Domains for Sale: in the area of Geotechnical Engineering
If you are interested in some domains that can let you establish your presence in Internet in a meaningful way, please go to Sedo.com and try to explore them. Some of them are listed at the end of this posting. I bought some of these domains in the search of better name for my own use. As soon as I got Geotech.Net, my search is over.
In Sedo.com, you might find a list of sky racketing price, but give a try starting from $60 (the lowest bid price). If you are in Geotechnical engineering profession, then the domains listed below might be waiting for you, let me know: at "Geotech (at) Live.com" . Some of these domains can be transferred to you at almost no charge provided these names have not expired by the time you send a request.
Please note that the current market price of domains with .com and without .com (next to .com is .net) have at least 10times of difference in price level. It means if .com costs 1000 USD, then .net cost 100 to 200 USD, and .org may cost 20-30 USD, and .biz / .info / .mobi may cost only 10-20 USD. Geotech.Mobi is still (end of 2008) open to registration.
These days, a 3 char domain name costs minimum 5000 USD for a extremely low quality domain name, i.e. combination of charactes like j,q,u,v,z,x,y.... In Year 2000, best 3 char domains used to cost about 2000-3000 USD. So, reserve your .com domain name before the price goes up and become untouchable.
In every 18 months, the price of domain will double, and demand of .com domain will also double in every 18 months. It is because of the increased focus on .com, the common people will instantly think it is .com domain. They see .com for general purpose use, and .org for organization related domains, and rest means confusing to them. Unless you remind them that your domain has .net or .biz or .info, they are not going to use it. It is just like free dial numbers. I always assume that free dial number means 1-800-xxx-xxxx, and I try other variations only when 1-800-numbers fail to connect to my expected organization. Sometime, I end up with traps.
People are crazy for .com domain, but the other .extensions will slowly die, I mean the dictionary keyword, and 3 chars will remain in use, but others will of no value. It will happen in next 10 years. Well, some poor fellows still use Windows 95, well they say that Vista is not yet stable, similarly people will use .net, .org, .biz, .info and they will say ask, "why should I use long .com domain name instead of short .biz." It is your choice. Why should I have Levi's jeans pants? Why should I have Toyota Car, not the Hyundai or Kia? Why should I have Burberry's winter coat, not the Stanford? It certainly matters when it comes to TRAFFIC attraction towards you. So, it is not late to have your own .com domain name.
If you really want to have your own biz, then register it now, and install Drupal CMS, and slowly work towards it. Grow in to Biz, and there is less in Growing in to biz, then Going in to Biz. Writing all these stuffs is not to motivate or provoke you to buy the domains listed below, but to give you an idea what is going on in .com domain world. Right now, 06.com was sold at the price of 80,000 USD (On the 4th week of April 2007), rex.com is about 400,000 USD, and Vodka.com was recently sold to a Russian Vodka producer at 3 million USD. (e)Business.com was sold in 2001(?) at about 800,000 USD, and if it is now, it would have been sold in more than 10 million dollars. Two word combination domain e.g. CheckCards.com was recently sold at 17,000 US Dollars. Don't expect to get any Dictionary word (in English) .com be available to you for free registration at this moment, even the e Prefixed e.g. ePlease.com or like that are gone. So, if you get a two words combination .com domain (less than 10 character long), e.g. GeoGod.com, you can celebrate. I am not kidding. Imagine the power of lucrative .com biz. I am not asking or provoking you to join .com biz, but to have your own before someone snatches the name that you can afford at this moment.
If you register a domain at 1and1.com it costs only 6 USD per year, and it is the lowest (most reliable) price at current .TLD domain registration market. GoDaddy.com is also OK, they frequently offer 10-20% discounts like JC Penny does, and that comes around 74 dollars for 10 year registration. Make sure that you do not blend registered brand names of big companies, especially when it comes .com and .net or .org, whatever the word means in your language, and they will dispute such that the registrars start grabbing money from your credit card without your consent because in their looooooooooooooong TOR / TOC they might have asked you to accept the condition. Like me, you will also click on "I accept without reading the TOR/TOC". GoDaddy.com charged me such fee ($29), and their job is nothing, and they will not do anything in your favor out of that $29, rather ask you to hire an attorney if you want to defend yourself in a court somewhere in USA. So, they will suddenly put your domain in their custody, and you will lose control over your domain, and the registrar will run their advertisement enjoying your reputation based WebHistory. So, be very careful when you get the domain name.
If you see big / famous brand names unregistered, don't rush, rather spend sometime researching it. Or, you register it under the category "private registration", and it can protect you to some extent i.e. as long as you don't unlock it. Lock and Unlock, and private registrations are two keyphrases that you would like to understand if you want to have to avoid defending your domain in a court that is 1000km away from your resident. When you unlock the domain without private registration, you information on whois database becomes open to public, and suddenly you may find rats (spammers, hackers, and both real and fake appraisal companies) running around you. So, do not think that registration of .com domain name is not risky as if granted, and risk is always there. But if you are a bit cautious then it won't be a big problem. Just take care, and keep on watching. Tighten your lock and hide your keys. Good Luck to you to have your own foot marks on CyberWorld.
